Does the 4th of July still matter? Do we as Americans know what the 4th of July stood for and what it means? Does the America of the 4th of July still exist?
I don’t ask these question to sound provocative. I’m serious, have most Americans forgotten or even understand what America is and what the 4th of July means?
I believe most Americans don’t know. America is not unique in seeking independence from a tyrannical government, what is unique is what was birthed from our fight for independence.
America arose from the idea, ” that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Now, America wasn’t and isn’t perfect. We have our own history of oppression and tyranny, and we have fought to correct these injustices. We understand this, but most Americans don’t understand when the Declaration of Independence says, “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Simply put, we are a People with a Government and not a Government with a People. We have Rights and not the government. We have the power and relinquish some of those just powers to the government with our consent in order to protect and secure those Rights.
The government doesn’t give us our Rights. We don’t have the right to Free Speech because it is in the Bill of Rights. We are endowed with this and other unalienable Rights, and we enumerate certain just powers to the government to secure these Rights.
So what does this mean?
It means that we decide what the government can and cannot do, not the other way around.
Do you realize that the federal government is primarily limited to eighteen enumerated powers in Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution, and almost everything the federal government does today is unconstitutional?
Do you know that our fiat currency and the Federal Reserve are entirely unconstitutional?
Did you know ObamaCare and the federal government forcing you to buy healthcare is unconstitutional? Forcing you to buy a product is more egregious than King George III high taxation without representation policies.
If King George III had the US Supreme Court, he could have not just gotten away with high taxes, but he could have taxed you for not buying tea.
We have forgotten or have never been taught these principles because of our unconstitutional Department of Education that no longer requires the teaching of the US Constitution or Civics. Our law schools teach precedent of past judicial decisions instead of faithfully teaching the US Constitution.
We have become a different America. A lot of things for the better as we fought to end slavery, give women and minorities the right to vote and provide equal protection under the law.
You see these things are good because they sought to fulfill the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and fulfill the noble intent and purpose of what America should be, and we should rightfully celebrate these things.
But we shouldn’t celebrate becoming a Government with a People. Even though we have made great progress in some areas. We must realize that we are not the America that was created in 1776.
We have allowed the government to become overbearing and tyrannical in controlling almost every aspect of our lives. The seeds of independence must be planted again and those of us that believe in America, freedom, independence, self-government, and self-determination must unite and restore our government to it Constitutionally defined role and once again become a People with a Government and no longer a Government with a People.
